Al- Malik:
Surat al-Hashr ayah 23:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
-The King
-The one who when He decrees or legislates, He cannot be disobeyed.
The real kingdom belongs to Allah because not even a king of this world can go against His decree nor can his will be superior to that of Allah’s.
Surat al-Fatihah ayah 4:
مَـالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
Master of the Day of Judgment.
Of all the days that Allah could have chosen to say that He alone is the Master of- He chooses Youm Al-Qiyamah. But why mention this day?
Because in all the world, more important than life and death- is the question of heaven or hell.
On that day- Allah will resurrect everyone on the same plane (like on ‘Arafah), and every person who ever walked the earth will be made to stand with the others- from the peasant on the fields to the richest and most powerful of all kings. And Allah will ask them all:
“Who is the real King on this day?”- But none from among His slaves shall have the audacity to reply. And Allah ta’ala will answer that He is the King.
There is not a king but that he worries about his kingdom being taken away- but Allah gives and takes kingdoms to those whom He wills, who then is the real king?
Surat al-Hashr ayah 23:
ُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
Al-Salaam:
1. The one who has or shows no evil.
Ex/1 Al-salaamu alaykum is a du’a: ‘May no harm come to you’
2. Granter of Peace
Ex/2 Dar al-salaam: is another name for Jannah
Evil does not come from Allah nor do we ascribe any evil to him*
For those who believe in Al-Salaam- he will bestow His salaam and peace on them.
Al- Mu’min:
ُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
1. The one who has eman.
2. Allah has eman in Himself (i.e. He believes in Himself) that there is no God other than He.
3. The one who grants security.
Al-Muhaymin:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
1.The one who keeps track of each and everything. Nothing is lost by Him.
2.The one who witnesses all that His slaves commit (their actions) whether in public or in private.
For the believers, that nothing is lost by Allah, should increase hope in Him because then, no good deed, no matter how small (i.e. smiling to your Muslim brother) will go unaccounted for. To the sinners should it increase their fear in Allah. Because, the people are only aware of that which you do in their presence but Allah is aware of everything- so no good deed is lost by Him.*
Al-Azeez:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
1. The One who has power.
2. The One others cannot harm.
If Allah blesses us with power then none can remove it from us nor can they harm us in the slightest as all power originates from Him and He is the one who distributes it among His slaves.
3. The One who has ‘Izzah or glory/honour.
Whoever wishes to have ‘izzah then know that all ‘izzah comes from Allah.*
None can honour or humiliate anyone or anything except for Al-Azeez. He is the One who gives ‘izzah and the very One who takes it away.
Al- Jabbar:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
1.Exulted in might, All-Powerful, above His creation.
2.Fulfills the needs of the one who is deficient (i.e. fulfills the needs of His slaves)
Al-Mutakabbir:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
1.Root: ‘kabura’ which is also the root of Allahu Akbar.
This person refuses to submit to another. In the case of Allah this insult of al-Mutakabbir becomes the highest of praise because none can demand submission from Allah- in which case He can never submit to another (because there is no other being He can submit to), hence, ‘Allahu Akbar’.
Rather no one comes to Allah except as a subservient ‘abid.
Allah is bigger than to show injustice to anyone or anything. He is far greater a being than to do such a thing.
Al-Khaliq:
Surat al-Hashr ayah 24:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاء الْحُسْنَى يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
The perfection of Al-Khaliq necessitates 2 things:
1.That you create from nothing.
Starting from nothing is what creation implies- not transformation in the sense that you transform one material or shape into another.
In the case of Allah it is and has always been ‘kun fa ya kun’ or ‘be and it is’
It is then Kufr to believe in the Second Law of Thermodynamics [“The energy available after a chemical reaction is less than that at the beginning of a reaction; energy conversions are not 100% efficient”] which relates that matter can neither be created nor destroyed, rather it is transformed from one form to another.
2.That you create without a prototype, model, diagram, or design of any sort.
In the case of a human, we need blueprints in order to ‘create’ something, however, such is not the case with Allah.
Al-Bari:
هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاء الْحُسْنَى يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
1.The Sustainer.
2.The One who creates a creation that is self-sufficient, that nourishes itself, whose bodies heal themselves.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala not only created us from nothing, but He also created a creation that is self-sufficient by His will alone. Meaning we can farm etc. and thereby sustain ourselves, but only because Allah ta’ala decreed that it should be so.
