Part 9 of


Battle of Al-Jisr (Bridge)

- The Muslims held back from Persian battles due to the intensity
- It took place near Kufa
- The General was Bahman Jadhawayh
- They had brough elephants with them. In one charge multiple fighters were killed. This became a huge obstacle to the Muslims since the elephant's loud trumpeting would scare the horses.

Reasons why Khalid Ibn Waleed was brought down.

1) AbuBakr's style of leading let people to manage freely compared to Khalid or Umar who managed more closely.

2) Khalid (RA) was extremely swift in making decisions.

3) Khalid was good and he knew it.

4) Umar (RA) was afraid of the fitnah of the muslimeen. If you wanted to be victorious go with Khalid. Umar wanted them to be victorious with their actions and trust in Allah.

Battle of Al-Bowaib

- Tribe of Bajila
- Took place in Ramadan and encouraged everyone to break their fast
- With statemenets such as “Allahu Akbar!” (God is Great), the leader can kick off the whole battle.
- Muslims began to lose. Al Muthana went to find the weakest link which was Banu Ijl and sent to them: “Indeed the ameer sends his salam and says not to expose the muslims today”
- Banu Ijl was challenged and became the strongest tribe
- Muslims were victorious

Al-Qaadisiyyah
Day 1: Day of Armaath

- One of enormous battle in Persia.
- Umar (RA) wanted to lead the battle by himself so he had to choose a leader.
- He sent Al-Asad (the lion) Saad ibn Abu Waqas.
- Zayid ibn Haritha’s wife became Saad ibn Waqas wife.
- Al Madayn: political capital of Persia.
- Persian King: Yazdajard
- Amongst 12 muslims were selected, each with their own qualities to negotiate with the king.
- In order to enter the King’s palace the Muslims were requested to bow down and enter. Knowing this was against Islam they instead bent down and walked in backwards.
- When they were asked who the most noble was, Asem ibn ‘Amaar raised his hand. Dirt was poured on this head. He laughed and said “They’ve given us a part of their land!” An example of the optimism the had.
- Persians had 120 000 fighters. Total was 36 000 fighters to fight in Al-Qaadissiyah.
- Rib’ee ibn ‘Aamir was known for his rough Bedouin look. The rough clothes, braids, dagger, spear and his pony.
- As he was walking, he used his speakers as a walking stick; cutting into everything since Rostom (Persian leader) wanted to mesmerize him with all the materlisim.
- When he was asked about his mission: We were sent to liberate the creation from worship of other creations to the worship of the creater.
-When he was asked about the success of Muslims, he said: You people glorified food, drink and clothing. To us it’s insignificant.
-Rostom was given three days to come to a decision.
- Tulayha had come back, became muslim and joined the Battle of Qaadissiyah.
- Sa’ad (RA) became extremely sick. He had boils all over and couldn’t even lie on his back.He was accused of being a coward and not wanting to fight in the battle.
- People who previously apostated were in this army that’s why there was an increase in so good etiquettes.
- The Muslim’s army consisted of approx 30 000 fighters and ALL said Allahu Akbar! Before they charged (wow imagine that!)
-As they charged they’re saying “La hawla wa la quwata illa billah”
- Tulayha started knocking down tents and let out their horses.
-The Persians had 33 Elephants.
- How do you kill an elephant? Stand infront of an elephant and wait until it comes close and then shot at its eyes. The elephant dies and you die too.
- Elephants destroyed the muslims that first day.
- The tribe Asad, came forward donating their lives in killing the elephants. So many of them were killed that almost the whole Banu Asad became extinct.

Day 2: Day of Aghwaath

- The second day the elephants were stablized. Al Qa'Qa became the general and joined them on the second day. On the first day the ameer Asadallah (saad ibn waqaah) became extremely ill he was not even able to sit down he had to lie down flat on his back. People started mocking him but he paid no attention. His wife came and started getting mad at Saad and then screamed "YA MUTHANAAAA" which was her husband that was killed shaheed. This sparked a light in Saad and he ran into the battle responding to the challenge by his wife.

- Abu Mihjan AthThaqafee was a person who apostated but later came back to Islam. He was arrested and put in jail for drinking alcohol. He begged Saad's wife to let him out. He started reciting elequoent poetry and how he wanted to bring the Muslims out of the defeat. He promised that if he was alive he would come back and lock himself and if not that means he died in the battle. Saad’s wife eventually let him out. He ran and stole Saad's horse ran into the battle. He immediately started destroying the Persians. Saad saw that man and thought..hmmm.. isn’t that my horse?

Day 3: Day of ‘Imaas

- 20 000 of Muslims were killed shaheed
- 10,000 Persians were killed
- The elephants calmed down and started to back away followed by the fighters.
- Sa’ad advises them to be patient and continue fighting even though they had no physical energy left. They kept fighting though the night and by sunrise the Persians were running away. Victory was to the Muslims!
- Rostom was killed in the water.
- Women acted as nurses. They had nursing materials in one hand to nurse the wounded soliders and a weapon in another hand to finish off whoever was at the verge of death.
- Muslims would wait on the outskirts of the won waiting for news. Eventually all of them went back leaving Umar (RA) waiting by himself. Al-Bashir comes and yells that the Muslims have been victorious. Had has passed by Umar looking for the Khalifah which turned out to be Umar and apologized. He thought the Khalifah would be this high and mighty man.
